Bitcoin walks into this week near $80,000 with two very different tests ahead of it. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve decides interest rates.

On Friday, about $11.1 billion in Bitcoin options expire.

    • Will the Fed decision move Bitcoin?
  • Conclusion

That difference is the whole story this week, and it is why Wednesday deserves more attention than Friday.

This article gives you the dates in Pakistan time, the numbers behind both events, and a simple way to judge which one actually moved the market. It makes no price promise, because neither event can guarantee a direction.

Key takeaways

  • The Fed meets Oct 27-28, and the decision lands Wednesday, Oct 28 at 2:00 pm ET, which is 11:00 pm in Pakistan.
  • The press conference follows at 2:30 pm ET, which is 11:30 pm in Pakistan.
  • About $11.1 billion in Bitcoin options expire Friday, Oct 30 at 08:00 UTC, which is 1:00 pm in Pakistan.
  • The options market put max pain near $78,000, but max pain is a positioning snapshot, not a support level.
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs ended the week to Oct 23 with a provisional $301.2 million net inflow, after $773.5 million left in the last two sessions.
  • The verdict in this article: the Fed sets the direction, and the expiry only shows how traders were positioned before it.

The week in one glance

Start with the calendar, because the timing alone explains much of the confusion. Wednesday brings a central bank decision that can shift borrowing costs, bond yields, and risk appetite.

Friday brings a settlement that closes old contracts and frees traders to place new ones.

Both events matter, but they do not matter in the same way. One creates new information.

The other reveals old positioning.

EventDate and Pakistan timeWhat it does
Fed decisionWednesday, Oct 28, 11:00 pm PKTSets the federal funds target range and signals the path to December
Fed press conferenceWednesday, Oct 28, 11:30 pm PKTChair Kevin Warsh explains the decision and answers questions
Bitcoin options expiryFriday, Oct 30, 1:00 pm PKTSettles about $11.1 billion in Deribit Bitcoin options contracts

Readers in Pakistan should note the late Wednesday timing. The market reaction will likely develop overnight, so the cleanest read comes on Thursday morning, not in the first minutes after the statement.

Why the Fed decision carries more weight

The Fed now holds its target range at 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent, after a quarter point rise in September. Most economists expect a hold this week, and futures pricing pointed the same way in late October.

A Reuters poll found 94 of 100 economists expecting a hold on Oct 28, while all 100 expected a hike by December. That split is important.

It means Wednesday is less about a surprise rate move and more about the road to December.

CME FedWatch futures pricing put the chance of a hold near 88 percent on Oct 23, against about 12 percent for a quarter point hike. A separate Kalshi market put the hold chance at 91 percent on Oct 26.

These are market prices, not forecasts, and they move with every new data point.

What a no-projection meeting leaves open

This meeting brings no new Summary of Economic Projections, which is the set of policymaker forecasts often called the dot plot. That absence raises the value of every word in the statement and every answer at the press conference.

Without fresh projections, traders must guess how officials weigh sticky inflation against weaker hiring. Chair Kevin Warsh has also avoided giving markets a clear forward path, which makes the statement wording even more important.

For Bitcoin, the channel runs through the dollar, bond yields, and appetite for risk. A hawkish tone can lift yields and cool risk appetite.

A patient tone can do the opposite, but neither outcome moves Bitcoin on its own.

What to listen for at 11:30 pm PKT

Listen first for any change in how the statement describes inflation and jobs. A shift in one word can matter more than a repeated line about patience.

Listen next for how Warsh frames December. The market already leans toward a December hike, so the question is what would confirm it, delay it, or rule it out.

Listen last for the vote itself. A unanimous hold sends a different signal than a split vote, even when the rate stays the same.

Our earlier look at Fed FOMC minutes and Bitcoin showed how small wording clues can move sentiment fast.

What Friday’s $11.1 billion expiry actually does

An options expiry sounds dramatic, because $11.1 billion is a huge number. In practice, that figure is the notional value of contracts that already exist, not fresh money entering the market.

Deribit-linked positioning put about 136,000 BTC in contracts approaching settlement, with a put to call open interest ratio near 0.55. That ratio means calls outnumber puts by roughly 1.8 to one, but it does not prove traders are bullish.

Calls can be sold to collect premium, used in spreads, or held as hedges for other positions. The headline ratio alone cannot tell you which motive dominates.

That is why the expiry needs careful reading, not a quick bullish or bearish label.

Max pain is a snapshot, not support

Analysts put max pain for the Oct 30 expiry near $78,000. Max pain is the price where total payouts to option buyers would be smallest, based on current open interest.

It is not a buy order, and it is not a floor. Visible buy orders can be pulled, and a calculation about old contracts cannot force new buyers to appear at $78,000.

Our guide to how far Bitcoin bear markets have fallen before makes the same point in a different way. Past levels describe history, and they do not promise a bounce.

The $95,000 call wall

The largest single strike concentration sits at the $95,000 call, with roughly 24,000 BTC in open interest. That crowd needs a large move higher to pay off, which makes it a useful map of hope, not a prediction.

An Oct 25 options snapshot put at the money implied volatility near 32 percent for this expiry. Using a reference price of $80,717, that volatility implied a move of about $3,117 through settlement.

That math gives a one standard deviation range of roughly $77,600 to $83,835. Treat that range as an options market estimate, not a forecast, and note that its lower edge sits close to the $78,000 max pain level.

The collision scorecard: Fed versus expiry

This scorecard is the original comparison in this article, and it is how you can judge the week for yourself. It asks the same five questions of both events, so the difference in their power becomes clear.

QuestionFed decision, Oct 28Options expiry, Oct 30
What changes?Borrowing costs and the policy outlookWhich old contracts settle and which expire worthless
Who moves first?Bond and currency traders, then cryptoOptions dealers adjusting hedges into settlement
What proves it mattered?A lasting shift in yields and December rate pricingA sharp move that holds after Friday settlement clears
What proves it did not?Yields and December pricing barely move by ThursdayPrice drifts back into its old range by Monday
What should you watch?Statement wording, vote, and Warsh answersWhether new positions rebuild quickly after expiry

Use that last row as your test. If December pricing barely moves after Wednesday, then the Fed gave no new signal, even if Bitcoin jumps for an hour.

If Bitcoin holds a new range after Friday, then traders rebuilt positions with conviction, not just noise.

What the ETF week tells us, and what it does not

US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $1,074.7 million from Monday to Wednesday in the week ending Oct 23. Then $635.6 million left on Thursday and $137.9 million left on Friday, which cut the weekly total to a provisional $301.2 million net inflow.

Friday outflows hit BlackRock IBIT for $110.3 million and Fidelity FBTC for $31.8 million, while Morgan Stanley MSBT took in $4.2 million. These figures remain provisional, because Farside data showed a missing Friday entry for VanEck.

The week ended positive, but the shape matters more than the total. Early buying faded fast, which fits a market waiting for a catalyst rather than chasing one.

For context, September brought $2.65 billion in Bitcoin ETF inflows, as covered in our report on September Bitcoin ETF inflows. October opened with $103 million in inflows, as covered in our report on Bitcoin ETFs opening October.

A single positive week does not erase a mixed month, and it does not prove institutions have returned in force.

How to read the week without guessing

First, separate the signal from the settlement. Wednesday can change expectations, while Friday mostly closes old trades.

Second, watch December pricing, not just the Oct 28 headline. If December hike odds jump or fall sharply, then Wednesday gave a real signal.

Third, wait for Thursday morning in Pakistan time before judging Wednesday. Overnight moves often reverse when European and US traders get a second look.

Fourth, watch what happens after Friday settlement, not during it. New positioning after expiry tells you more than the settlement price itself.

Readers who want the rate cut angle can also revisit our earlier explainer on what happens if the Fed actually cuts rates. That piece explains the same transmission chain in slower detail, from rates to risk appetite.

Common mistakes this week

The first mistake is calling $78,000 support because max pain sits there. Max pain describes old contracts, while support describes buyers willing to buy now.

The second mistake is calling the expiry bullish because calls outnumber puts. Calls can be sold, hedged, or spread, so the ratio alone cannot carry that conclusion.

The third mistake is treating a hold as a non event. A hold with hawkish December language can tighten conditions, while a hold with patient language can ease them.

The fourth mistake is trading the first headline. The statement lands at 11:00 pm PKT, but the press conference at 11:30 pm PKT can change the first reaction completely.

The fifth mistake is ignoring the ETF flow shape. A positive weekly total built on early buying and late selling is weaker than the same total built on steady daily inflows.

Our earlier piece on why Bitcoin barely moved after a Fed rate hike shows how often the first move misleads.

FAQs

Here are the short answers to the questions readers ask most about this week.

When is the Fed decision in Pakistan time?

The Fed decision lands Wednesday, Oct 28 at 2:00 pm ET, which is 11:00 pm in Pakistan, with the press conference at 11:30 pm PKT.

When do the Bitcoin options expire in Pakistan time?

The Bitcoin options expire Friday, Oct 30 at 08:00 UTC, which is 1:00 pm in Pakistan and 4:00 am ET.

What is max pain, and does it predict the price?

Max pain is the price where total payouts to option buyers would be smallest, based on current open interest, and it does not predict where Bitcoin will trade.

What does the options implied range mean?

The options implied range of roughly $77,600 to $83,835 is an estimate from an Oct 25 volatility snapshot, not a forecast or a guaranteed trading boundary.

Will the Fed decision move Bitcoin?

The Fed decision can move Bitcoin through bond yields, the dollar, and risk appetite, but no outcome guarantees a rise or a fall.

Conclusion

Bitcoin enters this week near $80,000, caught between a central bank that can change expectations and an options book that can only settle old bets. Wednesday will tell us more about December, and Friday will tell us how traders were positioned before that answer arrived.

Watch the statement wording on Wednesday night, watch December pricing on Thursday, and watch new positioning after Friday settlement. That sequence gives you the real verdict, without needing to guess the next price move.

For your next step, bookmark the two Pakistan times in this article, and check back on Thursday morning for the cleaner read. If December pricing moved, then Wednesday mattered.

If it did not, then Friday was just noise clearing out of the way.
