Bitcoin price prediction October 2026: BTC chart rising toward $90,000
SHARE

Update: the September 30 PCE print came in cooler than expected, and Bitcoin already broke above $85,000 on the data. See our coverage of the $85K PCE breakout for the full breakdown.

Bitcoin enters October 2026 trading near $83,400, and the market is split down the middle. One side sees “Uptober” carrying BTC back toward $90,000. The other sees a leveraged market sitting on a $4.35 billion trap that could drag price toward $74,000.

Here is my take after studying the charts, the flows, and the calendar: October ends higher than it starts, with a base case of $88,000 to $90,000.

But everything depends on one line in the sand. Bitcoin must break $84,800 with conviction. Lose $82,900, and the bearish case takes over fast.

Key Takeaways

  • BTC trades near $83,400 on September 30, down about 3% on the week after failing at $87,270.
  • Key resistance: $84,972, $87,400, $90,000. Key support: $82,900, $80,000, $78,713.
  • Bullish case: a clean break of $84,800 opens the road to $90,000. October is Bitcoin’s best month, with a median gain of 11.2%.
  • Bearish case: losing $80,000 exposes $78,000, then a $4.35 billion pile of long positions near $74,170.
  • The biggest macro event of the month: the FOMC decision on October 28. Today’s PCE inflation report sets the tone.

Where Bitcoin Stands on the Last Day of September

Bitcoin climbed to $87,270 last week, its highest level in eight months. Then it gave those gains back as U.S. bond yields surged.

The 10-year yield crossed 5.24% and the 30-year jumped to 5.6%, pressuring every asset that pays no yield. Bitcoin now sits about 34% below its $126,210 all-time high from October 6, 2025.

The good news hides in the flows. Spot ETFs just posted their best week since October 2025, with $2.39 billion of inflows, and September added $2.73 billion in total.

The catch: the pace slowed from August’s $3.52 billion, and momentum faded into month end. RSI sits near 55, neutral with room to run, and market sentiment reads positive. In short, the setup is balanced, not broken.

The Key Levels That Will Decide October

Forget the noise. October comes down to a handful of price levels that analysts keep naming. Break the ones above, and the bulls win.

Lose the ones below, and the bears do. My chart below lays out the full battleground with Bitcoin’s current position marked, built from CoinEdition’s October level map.

Bitcoin October 2026 support and resistance levels chart
Bitcoin’s October 2026 battleground: resistance at $84,972, $87,400 and $90,000; support at $82,900, $80,000 and $78,713. Level data as of September 30, 2026.

Resistance: The Ceiling Between $84,972 and $90,000

The first ceiling is $84,972, this week’s high. Analyst Michaël van de Poppe put it bluntly: $84,800 is the one level Bitcoin must break, and a clean break opens the road to $90,000.

Above that sits $87,400, the September peak, and then the psychological wall at $90,000, a zone Bitcoin has not touched since January.

Why does $90,000 matter so much? Because it is the last major round number before six figures.

A weekly close above it would likely trigger a fresh wave of ETF buying and force short sellers to cover. That squeeze is exactly what bulls are waiting for.

Support: The Floor From $82,900 to $78,713

On the downside, $82,900 is the first line that matters. It marks the 4-hour Parabolic SAR, and one chart analyst called the $82,900 to $83,000 zone the single level keeping the short-term uptrend alive.

Below it, $80,000 is the floor of the descending channel Bitcoin has traded in since September 22. Lose both, and the 100-week moving average near $78,713 becomes the last defense before a deeper drop.

A weekly close under that line would turn the whole October outlook bearish.

The Bullish Case: Why $90,000 Is Within Reach

Start with history. October is Bitcoin’s best month. It has closed higher in 10 of the last 15 Octobers, with a median gain of 11.2%.

Applied to today’s price near $83,400, the median October implies roughly $92,700. History is not a promise, but “Uptober” exists for a reason, and this chart shows it.

Bar chart of Bitcoin October returns from 2011 to 2025
Bitcoin’s October track record: 10 green months in 15 years, average gain 13.9%, median gain 11.2%. Data compiled September 2026.

Then add the flows. ETF demand, the engine of this rally, is still alive. September 25 alone saw $134.47 million of net inflows, the seventh straight day of buying.

Corporate demand keeps stacking too: public companies now hold 1.273 million BTC combined, and veteran trader Peter Brandt just turned positive on Bitcoin’s long-term outlook.

Finally, the macro calendar is turning friendly. Odds of a Fed hike have slid below 50%, and the October 28 FOMC meeting is now the month’s biggest catalyst.

A patient Fed, plus a soft inflation reading, would give Bitcoin room to run. Trader Matthew Hyland is already calling for $90,000-plus by early November on a bullish divergence setup. For context on how the Fed’s last move barely shook Bitcoin, the market has learned to look past the noise and trade the actual decision.

The Bearish Case: The $4.35 Billion Trap Below

Now the uncomfortable part. Leverage is stacked against the bulls. Data shows $4.35 billion in long positions sitting below the current price, down to about $74,170.

If Bitcoin breaks $80,811, weak ETF flows could drag price straight to $74,957, right into that pile. That is how liquidations feed on themselves.

October also carries a scar. On October 10, 2025, more than $19 billion in leveraged bets were wiped out in a single day. Nobody wants a repeat, and market makers remember.

Add surging bond yields, which punish non-yielding assets, and slowing ETF momentum, and you get a market that can fall faster than it rose. Bitcoin has been beating gold as yields spike, but that trade can reverse quickly if yields keep climbing.

The trigger to watch is inflation. September 30 brings the core PCE report, the Fed’s favorite gauge.

A hot number would revive hike fears ahead of the October 28 decision and could easily send Bitcoin testing $82,900, then $80,000. Analyst Ted Pillows already warns that losing the 50-week moving average makes a drop to the $70,000 to $72,000 zone likely. That matches the bearish playbook we mapped out in September, and it is the scenario bulls must respect.

Bitcoin Price Prediction for October 2026: My Three Scenarios

Predictions without probabilities are just guesses. Here is how I split October, based on the levels, the flows, and the calendar.

ScenarioProbabilityTargetWhat makes it happen
Base: grind higher50%$88,000 – $92,000$84,800 breaks, ETF flows hold, Fed stays patient on Oct 28
Bull: Uptober delivers25%$95,000 – $100,000Soft PCE, dovish FOMC, weekly close above $90,000 squeezes shorts
Bear: support fails25%$74,000 – $78,000Hot inflation, hawkish Fed, $80,000 breaks and the $4.35B long pile unwinds

My base case matches the machine consensus too. Finbold’s three-model average puts Bitcoin at $85,850 by October 15, while scenario analysis centers on $90,000 to $98,000 by month end.

I land near the top of that range, because October seasonality plus steady ETF demand is a combination I have seen work before.

What Could Actually Push Bitcoin Back to $100K

The question everyone asks: is $100,000 back on the table? My honest answer is not in October, but the road opens this month.

First Bitcoin must clear $90,000. Technical analysts then see $90,288, $99,764, and $115,094 as the next hurdles. One clean weekly close above $90,000 could compress months of that journey into weeks.

What would fuel it? Four things. One, ETF inflows re-accelerating toward August’s $3.52 billion pace.

Two, a dovish surprise from the Fed on October 28, which would likely send the 10-year yield down from 5.24% and lift every risk asset. The last time rate-cut hopes built, Bitcoin made a new all-time high, so this playbook has precedent.

Three, continued corporate buying at the scale we have seen from Strategy and its peers.

Four, a sentiment flip: Bitcoin beating gold two months in a row would pull mainstream money off the sidelines. See our full Bitcoin vs. gold breakdown for 2026 for why that rotation matters.

https://x.com/CryptoMichNL/status/2104138474291077237

“There’s only one level that Bitcoin needs to break, and then, once again, we’ll continue to grind higher. That’s the $84,800. If that breaks, I think that we’ll see a continuation towards the $90,000 levels.” (Michaël van de Poppe on X, September 27, 2026)

3 Mistakes to Avoid Trading Bitcoin This October

First, do not chase the first breakout. Bitcoin has a habit of poking above resistance, then pulling back to test it. Wait for a daily or weekly close above $84,800, not a five-minute spike.

Second, do not ignore leverage. With $4.35 billion in longs below the price, any break of $80,000 can cascade. Keep position sizes small enough that a liquidation wick does not end your month.

Third, do not treat any forecast as a promise, including mine. Analysts were wrong about September too. Use the levels as a map, not a guarantee, and always manage your risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions I hear most about Bitcoin’s October outlook. Short answers, no fluff.

What is the Bitcoin price prediction for October 2026?

Most forecasts cluster between $85,000 and $94,000. My base case is $88,000 to $92,000 by month end, with $90,000 as the key breakout target and $78,000 as the key breakdown risk.

What are the key Bitcoin support and resistance levels for October 2026?

Resistance sits at $84,972, $87,400, and $90,000. Support sits at $82,900, $80,000, and $78,713. Analysts say $84,800 is the single level that decides the next trend.

Can Bitcoin reach $100,000 in October 2026?

Unlikely in October itself, but a monthly close above $90,000 would open the path. Analyst targets above $90,000 point to $99,764 and then $109,748 as the next major hurdles.

Why is the October 28 FOMC meeting important for Bitcoin?

Fed decisions move bond yields and the dollar, both of which drive Bitcoin. Odds of a hike have fallen below 50%, and a patient Fed is the bullish trigger analysts are waiting for.

Is October usually a good month for Bitcoin?

Yes. Bitcoin has risen in 10 of the last 15 Octobers, with a median gain of 11.2% and an average of 13.9%. That history is why traders call it “Uptober.”

My Final Take

I am bullish on October, with respect for the downside. The setup reminds me of every good Uptober: steady ETF demand, friendly seasonality, and a Fed running out of reasons to stay hawkish.

My call: Bitcoin closes October between $88,000 and $92,000, and the moment to believe it is a weekly close above $84,800.

If I am wrong, it will be because inflation surprised hot or leverage unwound below $80,000. Either way, October 28 will tell the story.

This is analysis, not financial advice. Do your own research, size your positions, and never risk money you cannot afford to lose.
