On Wednesday, September 11, the price of Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency by market cap, dropped by about 1.5% to ~$56,500.
Bitcoin slipped shortly after the much anticipated Trump-Harris presidential debate leaves out anything relating to cryptocurrency.
The presidential debate between VP Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump covered several topics, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and abortion rights, among others, but did not mention anything regarding cryptocurrency.
The Price Of Bitcoin Dropped As Trump-Harris Presidential Debate Leaves Out Everything Regarding Crypto
The Trump-Harris debate made no mention of cryptocurrency regulation all through. This made crypto investors and the crypto community at large ask for clarity on the stance of both candidates regarding cryptocurrency.
Whether the omission was deliberate or unintentional, its ripple effect has been felt in the prices of cryptocurrencies as Bitcoin (BTC) fell by about 1.5% before gaining some grounds to trade at $56,896.
Donald Trump has shifted from his bearish stance to support the crypto sector since the beginning of his campaign.
Kamala Harris recently embraced cryptocurrency by accepting crypto as donations. Both aspirants have recently expressed their positive positions toward cryptocurrency.
However, the recent occurrence at the US presidential debate left many wondering, and Bitcoin dropped as crypto traders reacted to the outcome of the debate.
Bitcoin was affected the most, considering the fact that it is in the spotlight as the main digital asset that can offer real-time clues on who is gaining more ground in the debate.
While the crypto community may not worry a lot about VP Harris, who just embarrassed crypto but is yet to discuss her policy position on cryptocurrency, Trump’s silence on cryptocurrency at the debate speaks volumes.
Trump has been courting the crypto industry to amass votes and donations toward his tight presidential race against Harry. He even vowed to make the US the world’s “crypto capital.”
Hence, the omission from the former president, who had previously called Bitcoin a “scam,” did not go well with the crypto sector.
Other Cryptocurrencies Were Also Affected
Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency affected by the outcome of the debate, Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest digital asset by market cap, was also affected. ETH experienced a drop of about 1.2% in price and is currently trading at ~$2,332.
Other affected cryptocurrencies include Solana (SOL), which dropped in price by about 2.5%, and Dogecoin (DOGE), which experienced a more significant drop of 3.2% in price, according to Tradingview data.
