Former US President Donald Trump has drummed up his support for the cryptocurrency industry after urging the US government to embrace cryptocurrencies.
While speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Trump noted that he wanted to support the US crypto industry. He mentioned that other countries were increasing their influence over the industry.
His recent sentiments add to Trump’s efforts to attract crypto votes.
Trump Urges US To Embrace Crypto
During the Bloomberg interview, Trump referred to the cryptocurrency industry as “amazing” and said it was not going away.
He mentioned that since he started voicing his support for crypto, he has “gotten to know many people” at fundraisers. These were “top-flight” people who were spearheading the nascent industry.
His remarks come as Trump’s campaign receives support from top players in the sector. The co-founders of the Gemini Exchange, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, have donated $2M worth of Bitcoin to the Trump presidential campaign.
Another contributor is the co-founder of Kraken, Jesse Powell, who donated $1 million to the Trump campaign.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, the Republican Presidential candidate also noted that he intended the US to be ahead of countries such as China regarding cryptocurrencies.
Trump stated,
If we don’t do it, China is going to pick it up, and China’s going to have it – or somebody else, but most likely China. China’s very much into it.
He further added that the US cryptocurrency industry already had a good foundation. However, this industry was still in its nascent stages. Therefore, he wanted to avoid being responsible for allowing other countries to take over and dominate the sector.
The Trump Presidential campaign has made crypto an area of focus. Trump is set to speak at the Bitcoin 2024 conference later this year. Additionally, his campaign accepts donations for multiple cryptocurrencies.
Trump Plans To Launch Another NFT Collection
During the interview with Bloomberg, Trump also hinted at plans to release another NFT collection.
Trump currently has three NFT collections garnered much interest across the cryptocurrency industry. He noted that these past collections were “very successful.”
Tump’s first NFT collection, released in 2022, featured 45,000 digital trading cards. These NFTs sold out within a day. However, the subsequent collections have witnessed relatively lower demand.
Trump stated that his plans to launch another collection come amid much demand. His sentiment came barely two months after he said he was hesitant to expand his reach in the NFT sector.
While speaking at an NFT event in May, Trump noted that while the first three collections performed well, he was unsure whether another NFT series would garner as much demand.
